Lumia 650Â was the last Windows 10 Mobile phone from Microsoft, which was released in 2016.
In October 2017, the Redmond giant announced it was discontinuing support for Windows 10 Mobile citing its low market share and the resultant lack of third-party software for the platform.
Microsoft further crushed all hopes of seeing an alternative to Android and iOS when it ended support for Windows 10 Mobile on January 14, 2020, thereby ending support for its smartphone OS.
However, this hasn’t stopped Windows Phone / Mobile enthusiasts from envisioning a modern version of Windows Mobile heavily inspired by Windows 11.
Shared by Lukastaves on the Windows Central Discord server, this amazing Windows 11 Mobile concept video by YouTuber AR 4789 (@AbdiRPC4789) provides insight into how the Windows 11 Mobile phone would have looked like if it had been made.
As one can see in the above video, the concept imagines a familiar Windows 11 look and has typical Windows features like a taskbar, a Start menu, a user interface (UI) optimized for smartphones, a tabbed File Explorer, Widgets, personalization features, a Dark Mode, Notification Center, Gesture controls and more.
It also has the capability to open and switch between different desktops.
After the dissolution of the Windows Phone platform, Microsoft released Surface Duo, a dual-touchscreen Android smartphone in September 2020.
This is the first device in the line that does not run Windows. A successor, the Surface Duo 2, was unveiled in September 2021.
While the Windows 11 Mobile concept video definitely looks fascinating, with Android and iOS dominating the mobile operating system market, as well as Microsoft, backing out of developing a dedicated mobile version of its desktop OS, it is highly unlikely we may see a modern version of Windows 11 Mobile from Microsoft.
